Clarksville Lady Shox holding open gym
The Clarksville Lady Shox will be holding Open Gym Sundays 2-4 p.m. at the Northeast High School gym, 3701 Trenton Road, Clarksville.
The three-time AAU National qualifying Lady Shox will be looking for potential players for the upcoming 2008 season, which also includes an automatic bid for the 14U AAU Nationals to be held in Clarksville July 2008.
Players will also earn the opportunity to be seen by college coaches from across the nation.
Girls ages 9-14 are eligible (age15 if birthday falls after July 1, 2007).

So, a crippled redhead walks into a bar. Well, a restaurant actually, and I had my little sister in tow. If you think this sounds like a bad joke, just wait. It gets worse. Now, I'm in a full leg brace and an Igor-like limp because of knee surgery, and she wears braces on both legs because of a birth defect. I give our name to the impossibly small hostess (where do they get these girls anyway, day care?) and turn to find a place to sit while we wait. .

The unfolding presidential elections are laying bare what the real dangers are in the new American condition. They come not from our political divisiveness, economic uncertainty or military insecurity - but from our religious character as a people, which, in this case, is not positive. Religious intolerance marks one candidate debate after another - a sweeping denigration of Islam. And it is going to backfire. The code word "Islamofascism" has become a staple of rhetoric. It braces the talk not only of pundits, but of all the major Republican candidates - from the tough guy at one end, Rudy Giuliani, who lambastes Democrats for not using the word or its equivalent, to the "nice" candidate at the other end, Mike Huckabee, who defines Islamofascism as "the greatest threat this country [has] ever faced."The pairing of "Islam" and "fascism" has no parallel in characterizations of extremisms tied to other religions, although the defining movements of fascism were linked to Catholicism - indirectly under Benito Mussolini in Italy, explicitly under Francisco Franco in Spain.

Northern U.S. braces for deep freeze
MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- Northern U.S. Midwest states and New England states were digging out from heavy snowfall Tuesday as a sub-zero cold front bore down on northern Plains states.
Forecasters said temperatures during the day in the northern Plains could plunge by as much as 30 degrees, with gusty winds making it feel much colder, AccuWeather.com reported.
To the south, a storm was developing over the Gulf of Mexico that was expected to move north and send much-needed rain to southeastern states, the report said. As the system moves north into colder air, it was expected to dump another major snowfall on Northeastern states, still digging out from heavy snow on Sunday and Monday.
Monday, Peterboro, N.H., reported 12.5 inches of snow, while Cornish, Maine, reported 12.3 inches.
