SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The 2007 Metro Silicon Valley Marathon(R) announced today that the field for the third annual Comerica (News) Corporate Challenge this Sunday will be the biggest ever, with 33 corporate teams competing. (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20010807/CMALOGO ) The race will take place on Sunday, Nov. 4 as part of the 2007 marathon event on the San Jose-to-Los Gatos course. The marathon and half-marathon begin at 7 a.m. at the corner of Park Avenue and Almaden Boulevard, San Jose. The 33 companies with an expected 238 runners include defending champion Genentech, which has not lost since the competition began in 2005. The companies are expected to field teams of runners at several distances, including the half-marathon, the distance at which the winner of The Comerica Cup, which goes to the "Fastest Company in Silicon Valley," will be determined.

Definition of Actinomycosis
Actinomycosis (also known as Rivalta disease, big jaw, clams, lumpy jaw or wooden tongue) is an infection, commonly of the face and neck, that produces abscesses (collections of pus) and open-draining sinuses (tracts in the skin). Actinomycosis is caused by a bacterium called Actinomyces israelii (A. israelii). It occurs normally in the mouth and tonsils. This bacterium may cause infection when it is introduced into the soft tissues by trauma, surgery or another infection. Once in the tissues, it may form an abscess that develops into a hard red to reddish purple lump. When the abscess breaks through the skin, it forms pus-discharging lesions. Seattle's pit bull population has exploded in recent years, with the controversial dogs, originally bred for fighting, now the fourth-most-popular dog in the city. City officials chalk it up to a fad. "It's just like fashion. Everything kind of goes in cycles, I believe," said Don Baxter, a supervisor at the city's animal control department. "You look at the breeds in the '70s and '80s, and they'll be totally different from the breeds in the '90s, which will be totally different from the breeds in the 2000s." In the past decade, the number of registered pit bulls in the city has more than tripled to 1,505. And based on registration data analyzed by the Seattle P-I, the proportion of pit bulls compared with other breeds has gone from 1.2 percent of Seattle's licensed dogs to 3.1 percent.
