| Late loss 'hard to swallow'
If we don't digest what happened and move on and get ready for them, we'll get embarrassed. The bottom line is we had our chances to take care of our business against Portland. We didn't, and now we have to move on." Faced with a chance to boost their record to 2-1 on this five-game Western Conference road swing, the Hawks couldn't maintain their composure or their lead in the final minutes against Portland. If they have that opportunity again tonight or against the Los Angeles Clippers Wednesday night at Staples Center, they'll at least have a reference point for what not to do. "You would hope that we've learned our lesson, but you can say that every time we lose a game, and it still keeps happening," said Hawks captain Joe Johnson, who is sure to encounter the regular chorus of boos that greets him every time he sets foot on the court at US Airways Center, the former America West Arena.
Beauty is her game
How she got started // Griffin was a bartender and a manager of a hair salon before becoming an aesthetician or skin-care specialist. She knew she loved the salon and spa industry but didn't want to cut hair. She decided to go into skin care and graduated from the Von Lee International School of Aesthetics. After obtaining her Maryland license, she began working at Spector + Krupp. Griffin must renew her state license every two years. "Everybody's always looking for the fountain of youth and it's nice to be able to provide that." Typical day // Griffin works 40 hours a week, usually starting by 7 a.m. Half her day is spent administering chemical peels and microdermabrasions on patients. She estimates she'll perform four to six skin treatments a day. The rest of her time is spent working as a liaison between doctors and patients.
J.D. meets J.D. as Jack Dann writes from down under about the imagined ...
As a joke, we called ourselves The Fiction Factory. I think that Gardner was the glue that held these collaborations together. He was the editor, and so we were all OK with him doing the last, conforming draft. I think of those times as pure electricity; we were young, those were our salad days, and it felt like we could do no wrong. I have been told that I was often the engine that got the stories started, as I would sit down and just turn out the pages, until I got stuck; and then, miraculously, Gardner and Michael and Susan would magic it into a full-blown story. The stories would get passed around. I would do interstitial stuff, or write scenes where I (supposedly) had expertise, and so the stories flowed. Ideas were everywhere. In Gardner's notebooks, in casual remarks, in dreams of friendswe "borrowed" Tess Kissinger's dream of being taken to the senior prom by Jesus and turned it into "Slow Dancing With Jesus." Ah, I am still wistful for those days, although I just finished a collaboration with Barry Malzberg, and, hallelujah, I still feel the juice! So, all of that is the joys, the rewards.
Plane Crash Victim Was Local Jehovah's Witness Minister At Tyner ...
Our beautiful Truth family is so big, and we usually get the benefit of it only after a numbing tragedy like this one that has hurt so deeply the Walp family, as well as the families of our other precious brothers. We know that your family and congregation must struggle, now, to carry on through the pain; and the scriptures do say we will have this pain, but that Jehovah will always give us the way through, when we are "crushed", when we are "pressed from all sides", and when we are "broken". But, only for "a little while" will it be that we are enduring these things, yes? We are praying, then, brothers; we are praying that Jehovah is blessing your efforts to turn to him; that you are able to allow Jehovah to fill the space left by your loss with his great and powerful spirit; and to allow that comfort that only Christ's ransom sacrifice can bring to compel you forward towards the day when the paradise hope can make your hearts whole again.
Music Firms Want EU to Cut Off Pirates
More than anyone else in 2007, our industry has to thank French President Nicolas Sarkozy and the chairman of FNAC [the France-based chain of record and electronics superstores], Denis Olivennes, for the change of mood," said Mr Kennedy. The Sarkozy agreement, announced in November, is the most significant milestone yet in the task of curbing piracy on the internet. The French president's move requires ISPs to disconnect customers using an automated system and to test filtering technologies. Mr Kennedy made comments in an IFPI report on the state of the sector. Although there was a 40 percent increase in digital sales globally in 2007, according to the report, there was a 10 percent decline in sales of compact discs last year. The report also praised government moves against illegal downloading in Sweden, Belgium, the UK, the US and Asia.
Larimer Co. Horse Rescue Founder Turns Herself In
The founder of a horse rescue operation in Larimer County who is facing animal cruelty charges turned herself in to authorities on Friday. Alesha Machett, of Wellington, posted a $3,000 bond to keep herself out of jail after a Friday court hearing in which a judge rejected her request to have the $10,000 bond she has been ordered to pay lowered. The bond money goes towards the care of the dozens of animals who were seized from Machett's operation, Animal Angels Horse Rescue, after allegations surfaced that the animals were being underfed. The animals have been housed since late last month at the Larimer County Fairgrounds and have been tended to by the sheriff's department. Sheriff's investigators on Dec. 29 took seized 16 horses, ponies and donkeys, five llamas, five pygmy goats and one potbellied pig from Animal Angels.
